The Natural Capital Working Group held their first meeting on 20th March 2018. It was attended by representatives from across UK policy who met to share their knowledge and experience regarding natural capital and to identify common ground regarding their monitoring requirements going forward. The workshop was led by the Chair, Emily Connors from ONS, who has a vested interest in understanding more about how the country agencies will support monitoring to provide ongoing UK natural capital statistics. Three activities were highlighted as being the most important to take forward, including:

  • producing a joint short document on the role of monitoring for tracking UK natural capital
  • linking country level data across the UK, and
  • identifying gaps in natural capital data both within and between countries.

Over the past three months, activity sub-groups have met to discuss how best to take these three activities forward, with the aim of making significant progress before the end of the calendar year.
